Near Infared Unisort

UniSort® Near Infrared System NIR
The UniSort® near infrared sorting system precisely detects plastics with grain sizes up to 4 mm and recovers the material for recycling. The system efficiently separates individual plastics found in packaging waste, mixed plastics from electronic scrap (WEEE), and low-PVC refuse derived fuels from residual waste fraction.

The UniSort® near infrared sorting system uses high-precision particle detection followed by a burst of compressed air to separate the detected particle.

Over 300 UniSort® machines have been commissioned by RTT STEINERT over the past 20 years, to the complete satisfaction of the company’s international customer base.

Applications:
Plastics sorting and mixed plastics, low-PVC refuse derived fuels.

Technology:
The UniSort NIR sorting systems make use of the materials’ property of absorbing characteristic wavelengths. These absorbed wavelengths are determined by the specific material’s molecular structure. They lie above the region of visible light, in the infrared region of the spectrum. Hyperspectral imaging technology enables the high-resolution spectrometer to carry out extremely fast material recognition. The unit analyzes the radiation reflected from the material to be sorted according to its task, identifying various plastics, wood, paper and textiles, and so making the sorting system extremely flexible in its applications.

The UniSort® near infrared sorting system can thus selectively separate HD polyethylene from LD polyethylene (LDPE, HDPE) or polypropylene (PP), and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) from polyamide (PA), polycarbonate (PC). Moreover, the system can also distinguish between polystyrene (PS) and ABS.

UniSort® uses multispectral analytics that let it quickly adapt to new tasks. State-of-the-art fibre optics enable cost-effective handling of various materials flows at the same time (master-slave technology).

High resolution and fast data processing allow a high mass throughput on a machine while maintaining a consistently high extraction rate and maximum product purity.
